Exercise - Linear Regression

The mortality of cancer has increased dramatically during the last decades. When you look at the data for intestine cancer in West Germany for the period between 1955 and 1995, you see several effects:

(1) the rate of increase seems to be lower during the 80's and 90's than during the 60's and early 70's
(2) the increase of cancer cases in women is significantly higher than in men
(3) the proportion of cancer cases for both genders is almost constant.

Go to the  DataLab  and try to establish a linear and a parabolic model for estimating the number of cases in the year 2000. Are the results comparable? What are the estimates for the year 2000 if you set up a model using only the data after 1979?
